Este documental, narrado alternativamente por la hija del cineasta y madre cuyas historias nos dice, se centra en cómo dos mujeres se distancian y juntos mientras experimentan, respectivamente, la adolescencia y mitad de la vida. La madre tiene cáncer, una mastectomía, y, a continuación, la artritis reumatoide, y estas experiencias se entrelazan temáticamente y estructuralmente con la narración de la relación madre-hija.

This documentary, narrated alternately by the daughter-filmmaker and mother whose stories it tells, focuses on how two women move apart and together while experiencing, respectively, adolescence and mid-life. The mother has cancer, a mastectomy, and then rheumatoid arthritis, and these experiences intertwine thematically and structurally with the narrative of the mother-daughter relationship.
Another provocative juxtaposition cross-cuts scenes from the daughter’s modeling career (and the social and erotic body that context constructs for her) with scenes of the mother’s illness, stigmatization, and erotic daydreams. Both women come to a new awareness of the social meaning of mastectomy within heterosexual and same-sex contexts by the documentary’s end; they also come to a place of recognition of the mother’s personal and social value and the nature of their relationship.

A mother and daughter are in crisis because of their different responses to AIDS. The mother, Pinky, is flamboyant and open about the fact that she is HIV-positive. The daughter, Ntombi, battles to be just like everyone else. Her mother’s refusal to be passive in the face of AIDS sets them both apart.

Narra las historias de inusual de tres dinámicos lesbiana sangomas (curanderos) en Soweto, Sudáfrica. Inteligentes y comprensivas,estas mujeres comparten sus historias con ganas. Tells the unusual stories of of three dynamic lesbian sangomas (traditional healers) in Soweto, South Africa. Articulate and sympathetic, these women share their stories willingly. After leaving their husbands, two of the women were visited by their dominant male ancestors, who instructed them to take wives. They explored their sexuality as a result of this commandment, and became intimate with other women. The relationship between the Sangomas and their ancestors, the roles the ancestors play in Sangoma healing powers, and the role they play in shaping Sangoma sexuality are focal points in this documentary.
